Parkinson's disease

The comprehensive therapy concept as part of the multimodal complex treatment for Parkinson's disease under the supervision of a neurological specialist includes a thorough adjustment of medication adapted to the accompanying illnesses and concomitant medication.

In addition, our patients receive intensive physiotherapeutic treatment in individual and group sessions with various therapy methods (including zeptoring, kinaesthetics, relaxation and special pain therapy) as well as psychiatric, neuropsychological and psychotherapeutic support, occupational therapy, speech therapy, music therapy, art therapy and training in activities of daily living by specially trained nursing staff.

In co-operation with the surrounding university hospitals (e.g. Freiburg, Ulm, Augsburg, Munich) and other relevant departments, patients are treated with deep brain stimulation on an outpatient and inpatient basis.

The adjustment to pump therapies (apomorphine pump, levodopa pumps with application via a gastric tube or via the subcutaneous fatty tissue) for Parkinson's disease is also carried out at our clinic in the inpatient area if indicated after detailed outpatient pre-inpatient consultation and post-inpatient follow-up care in our outpatient clinic.

Our social workers are on hand to support you and your relatives with socio-medical issues.

A pastoral counselling and treatment service is also available to you on an optional basis.

The duration of multimodal complex treatment for Parkinson's disease in our department is usually 2-3 weeks. With our multi-professional team, we offer you customised, holistic treatment options, taking into account all the challenges that can be associated with Parkinson's disease.

To differentiate between these forms of illness, we carry out special blood pressure tests, ECG including long-term ECG measurements and extensive laboratory diagnostics in our department in co-operation with the general medicine/internal medicine department.

We also carry out olfactory tests using special olfactory pens and can perform intracranial duplex sonography of the brain stem.

Thanks to our cooperation with the in-house radiology practice, the entire spectrum of radiological diagnostics (computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and conventional X-rays) can be carried out promptly.

For special questions relating to differential diagnosis, we cooperate with the nuclear medicine department of the Oberschwabenklinik Ravensburg, where special imaging procedures for the diagnostic clarification of Parkinson's disease (such as the Dat-SCAN examination) can be carried out. This examination is a nuclear medicine procedure in which certain dopamine receptors in the brain are visualised and Parkinson's disease can thus be better differentiated from other diseases.
